The Reponse logo: a stopwatch, and the “r” of its name

The official animation: the dial draws, the hand sweeps, the name arrives

Context

[ Branding / Logo / Motion ]

Reponse is the agentic CX suite for Shopify: live chat, tickets, loyalty and referrals inside the admin, with AI agents that answer customers. The name carries the promise. The brand had to carry it too, and hold up where the product actually lives: a browser tab, the admin sidebar, the header of an email.

The logo appears on the very first site, in December 2025, and its shape hasn't changed since. One evolution only: it learned dark mode.

Role

Founder

As founder, I designed the brand: its drawing, its proportions, its variations and its motion system, then built it into the product, from the sign-in screen to the social images.

One drawing, two readings

The same drawing reads two ways. A stopwatch: a dial, and a hand that has already covered three quarters of the turn. And an “r”: the first letter of reponse, with its rounded stem and its shoulder. The name says what the product does, the stopwatch says how it is measured: response time.

A dial, a hand that has already covered three quarters of the turn: response time, the measure every customer service team watches.

For whom

Shopify merchants

Founders of D2C brands and customer service teams. They meet the logo in the admin, in the app’s emails, at the top of tickets. It has to inspire trust without ever asking for attention.

Their teams, every day

For them the brand is a working landmark: in the sidebar, on the sign-in screen, in email signatures. It has to stay legible when small, and restful after being seen all day.

Partners and investors

The same two shapes open the decks and the social images: a signature recognizable from afar, which holds without the name.

Why this look & feel

A brand that lives inside other people’s products cannot show off. Four choices follow from that.

01

An icon before a logo

Drawn on the interface icon grid (24, margin of 2), it holds at 16 px in a browser tab and sits among the Shopify admin icons without clashing.

02

No color of its own

It takes the color of the surrounding text: black on white, white in dark mode, the tint of an interface when it lives there. Reponse moves into other people’s products, so the brand has to know how to step back.

03

Two values, no gradient

100% for the hand, 20% for the dial. Hierarchy comes from opacity, not color: it survives email, favicons and print.

04

A tool’s geometry

Circles, two straight lines, a 1 to 2 ratio. Nothing of a mascot: a measuring instrument, precise and calm, for teams that spend their day in the admin.

From construction to final form

24 grid

Five steps, and a single proportion. The steps play on their own; each one reopens on click.

The brand in motion

Product states

Because it is a stopwatch, the logo can do what a stopwatch does: turn. In the product it is not just a signature, it becomes a state. While the app loads, the hand turns once a second; when something is waiting, it hesitates. The values below are the product component's own.

Rest
The mark, still. The default everywhere.
Thinking
The hand turns once a second, the dial breathes. At sign-in, while loading.
Attention
The dial pulses, the hand wavers 15° either way: something is waiting.
Hover
A nudge of rotation, +10%: the 404 page invites you back.

Vision

An AI agent has no face. It still needs a presence: a sign that says it is there, that it is working, that it is done. From the very first site, the mark played that role, at the center of the diagram showing how the agent understands customers.

That is the direction: a brand that reads like a name, measures like time, and behaves like a product state. Quiet when all is well, alive when the agent is at work.

Sizes and contexts

The sizes where the brand actually lives, and the logotype set in Geist semibold. The same file switches from light to dark on its own.
