The mobile app at the heart of the energy ecosystem
Context
STREAM is the cornerstone of the Sunology ecosystem: a B2C mobile app designed to make solar energy visible and actionable. The main product challenge of this redesign was transforming raw technical monitoring data into a seamless consumer experience. From IoT onboarding to daily management, the goal was to provide an interface that highlights ROI, encourages self-consumption, and drives daily user engagement.
Goals
- Improve the hardware pairing UX (Wi-Fi, Bluetooth) to drastically reduce drop-off rates during setup and lower support tickets.
- Simplify the visualization of complex energy flows (production, grid injection, home consumption) through an intuitive UI.
- Instantly demonstrate profitability and financial savings to maximize retention (DAU/MAU).
Role
V2 (Product Owner & Lead Designer): Roadmap management and UI/UX design in collaboration with a tech agency (Jems). The objective of this transitional phase was to internalize the product development cycle, establish Agile rituals, and ensure technical knowledge transfer.
V3 (Head of Digital): Handover of the PO role and scaling up with a 100% internal tech team. Strategic roadmap management to integrate new growth drivers (smart batteries, dynamic pricing).

V2 marked a pivotal step: transitioning from a utility app to a true smart home hub. The challenge was to consolidate the architecture to accommodate new products while resolving major friction points reported by users:
- IoT Onboarding: As a new user, I want to seamlessly pair my hardware (Bluetooth/Wi-Fi) without errors so that I can instantly enjoy my setup without having to contact support.
- Unified Ecosystem: As a multi-product customer, I want all my devices (PLAY Max, STOREY, ERL, METER) centralized in one dashboard so that I can manage my entire smart home at a glance.
- SUNCAST Algorithm: As a STOREY battery owner, I want the app to automatically route and store energy based on my habits and weather forecasts so that I maximize my savings with zero manual intervention.
- Storage Transparency: As a curious user, I want to clearly visualize the charge/discharge cycles of my battery so that I understand exactly how my energy is being used and saved daily.
